"The horse ran past the barn fell." - Linguistics problem
The brain's capacity to make connections between ideas, words and concepts is central to our ability to learn. This kind of metacognitive activity (thinking about thinking) is very powerful in terms of creating the conditions in which higher thought can occur. Normally all this activity is unconscious, but playing word games, which make use of associations between words based on their meaning or structure, brings them to the forefront, aiding in comprehension, vocabulary building and abstract thought.
Fowl WordsA greatly entertaining and motivating jumble game, starring chickens and eggs. Reorganize the letters into as many 3, 4, 5, 6 and even 7 letter words as you can.
Word VineIn this game you put together parts of words that are also parts of other words. Similar puzzles are used to engender insight thinking, because the answer suddenly occurs to you after many wrong turns.
